Frequently Asked Questions

  •  When does the season begin and end?
    • Practices are scheduled to begin in the middle or end of March depending on your age level, with games beginning in April.
    • The rec season ends at the beginning of June
  • How much does it cost to play? (Player equipment not included)
    • League registration is $TBA for grades 3-8, and $TBA for grades 1-2. 
    • This covers the cost of uniforms, insurance, field usage fees, referee's, and league equipment.
    • CYL does not offer multi child discounts
  • What type of required equipment is needed for my child to play, and how much will it cost?

  • When do I find out what team my player is on?
    • You should be contacted by the end of February/ early March by your childs coach
  • When does practice start and how many practices are there per week?
    • Practices will begin sometime in March
    • Depending on the age of your player, they will likely have 1 - 3 practices per week. 
      • 1-2 graders: 1 day of combined practice/ games per week
      • 3-4 graders: 1-2 days of practice and/ or 1 game per week
      • 5-6 graders: 1-2 days of practice and/ or 1-2 games per week
      • 7-8 graders: 3-4 days of practice and/ or 1-2 games per week
  • What is the Select Program about?
    • The Select Program is geared for players who want to further enhance their skills by competing against the most skilled players in the region.
    • All players will participate in a try-out session and will be scored by the league's coaching staff.  
    • Players will compete in weekly games, practices, and weekend tournaments, possibly traveling within the Pacific NW regionl.
  •  Can my child play Baseball and LAX?
    • Yes.  The CYL encourages your child to explore and participate in as many activities as possible, so your coach will work closely with you to accommodate other activities.
    • The older your child is, the more demanding both LAX & Baseball become, so this is easier to accomodate at the younger age groups
  • What kind of playing time should my child expect?
    • 1st - 6th grade levels - CYL subscribes to an "Equal Play" philosophy to ensure your child has the opportunity to learn the sport of LAX and have the playing time to develop their skills.
    • 7th - 8th grade levels - CYL subscribes to a "Balanced Play" philosophy.  Playing time will be distributed based upon effort, commitment, and skill.  All players will play "meaningful time" but not equal time.
  • Will we have to travel to play games?
    • Most of the games played are within the Metro Portland area.
    • Hood River is currently the farthest destination our players travel to.
